Intensive Care

The Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at Anderson Hospital manages patients with serious or life-threatening illnesses or injuries that require close observation and advanced, around-the-clock monitoring. Our multidisciplinary ICU team is comprised of physicians, nurses, and other clinical staff who specialize in caring for patients who require this critical and intensive care.

Advanced Critical Care Medicine

Anderson Hospital’s ICU

Our intensivist, who is a specialist in Critical Care Medicine, coordinates the plan of care for patients in the ICU. Consultations with our hospitalist and other specialists will be performed as needed. Each day at 10 a.m., the multidisciplinary ICU team will be making rounds on each patient. This allows for improved communication between the caregivers, the patient, and the patient’s family. We encourage the patient’s spokesperson to attend and ask questions. If you are unable to attend at that time, but would like to speak to the intensivist, please let your nurse know. The intensivist is available to meet with families each day from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m.

ICU Visitor Policies

At our ICU, we strive not only to deliver trusted medical care to patients with severe injuries and illnesses but also to foster a supportive, compassionate environment for their family members and loved ones. Visitors are welcome in the ICU but are limited to two people in the room at a time. Visitors under the age of 16 are not permitted. Please understand that you may be asked to step out of the room during emergencies, medical procedures, or at times when the medical staff needs to focus on the care of your loved one. You may call at any time to check on your loved one by calling our direct number at: 618.391.6350. Please be patient if the RN cannot come to the phone right away, as caring for your loved one is our first priority. We ask that you designate one person in your family to call for updates and share the information with other family members. Please refrain from bringing any food into the unit. Additionally, we kindly ask that you do not bring live plants, flowers, or balloons as they are not allowed.
