Celebrating Innovation During National Hospital Week: Surgical Services Technology Upgrades

National Hospital Week is a great time to spotlight the incredible advancements happening at Anderson Hospital, especially in our Surgical Services department. This year, the team has made significant technology upgrades to enhance precision, safety, and patient outcomes—including the addition of the new Da Vinci 5 Robot and the latest 7D FLASH™ Navigation System.

The 7D FLASH Navigation System represents a major leap forward in surgical technology. It uses machine-vision cameras and sophisticated algorithms—similar to the technology in self-driving cars—for navigation during spine surgery. By using only visible light, the system quickly analyzes the surface of the spine and, referencing a preoperative CT scan, provides real-time navigation for surgeons. Essentially, it acts like a surgical GPS.

Unlike traditional fluoroscopy, this innovative system eliminates the need for intraoperative radiation, significantly reducing exposure for both patients and surgical staff. The 7D FLASH system also offers the fastest image reconstruction in the field, allowing for highly accurate and efficient procedures.
