Edward McCalip, Critical Care Tech at Anderson Hospital Earns Lily Award

Edward McCalip was selected as the 3rd Quarter 2024 LILY Award Winner out of more than 105  nominations! He received 2 nominations: 1 from a patient and 1 from the family of the patient. We celebrated with Edward and his department along with Administration from Anderson Hospital.

The nominations read:

Ed has shown me profound capability, empathy, and overall exceptional care. He has made my hospital stay enjoyable, and I am feeling much better. My entire family has taken notice of how great Ed is. To me, he is the best! The world needs more people like Ed. 

Ed will forever have a special place in our family's hearts. He got to take care of my grandpa at the beginning of August. Right away they clicked. He listened to my grandpa's stories, looked at pictures with my grandpa, and most importantly was a friend to my grandpa while he was away from home and needed someone. Although our family frequently visited my grandpa during his stay, there were moments we could not be there and knowing Ed was there with him provided our family with so much comfort. My grandpa loved Ed so much that they planned on meeting outside of the hospital. My grandpa brought him his famous kettle corn and salsa which he makes from scratch. He was so excited to share that with Ed because that was only a small thing that he could do to give him thanks for being a good friend. Fast forward a month, my grandpa ended up back in a hospital, but this time in St. Louis. Ed had caught word about it in the hospital and reached out to find out if he could come to give "his friend some company". Right around that time, my grandpa had taken his last breath here on this Earth. I told Ed that my grandpa talked about him the entire month of knowing him. He actually told the story of the two of them meeting until the day that he physically could not. Our family lost our favorite thing in the world. At his arrangements, our family gathered to say goodbye to our grandpa, dad, and husband. Everyone knew all who had come to pay their respects to my grandpa. Except there was one face that really stood out to our family and that was....Ed. He came to my grandpa's arrangements all alone, with nothing but his heart on his sleeve and respect for my grandpa. We love you Ed.

As a reminder, Anderson Healthcare initiaed the Lily Program this year as a spin off from the Daisy Program. While the Daisy Program recognizes excellent nurses, the Lily Program is an opportunity to recognize the many employees in other roles throughout the healthcare organization! The criteria the Lily Committee looked for in the nominations are as follows:
