Why GPS Sometimes Leads You to the Wrong Hospital Entrance

A friendly reminder for our community

Every now and then, we meet patients who arrive feeling frustrated because their GPS took them to the wrong place—or even the wrong side—of our hospital campus. We completely understand how stressful that can be, especially when you're already focused on getting to an appointment.

However, GPS directions are not controlled by the hospital.
GPS (Global Positioning System) is a satellite‑based navigation tool managed by the U.S. government. Your phone or car simply interprets those signals—and sometimes things get a little mixed up.

Why GPS Can Be Wrong

Several common issues can cause your location or directions to be inaccurate:

  • Outdated map data in navigation apps
  • Construction or new buildings that haven’t been updated in mapping systems
  • Weak satellite signals due to weather, tall buildings, or nearby structures
  • Incorrect map pins placed by third‑party apps or users
  • Multiple entrances or large campuses that confuse automated routing
  • The culprit could also be your own PHONE SETTINGS!

Even the most advanced GPS systems can occasionally drop you at the wrong spot—or, as some people experience, in the middle of a parking lot instead of the correct entrance.

How We Can Help

Our greeters and volunteers are always ready to assist you once you arrive on campus.
If your GPS sends you somewhere unexpected, please be patient with our team—they’re dedicated to helping you get exactly where you need to go as quickly as possible.

A Tip to Avoid Future Mix-Ups

Before heading out, consider:

  • Double‑checking the department name and entrance
  • Visiting our website for directions and parking details
  • Calling ahead if you’re unsure about which building to use
